Hello!

If I install Ubuntu next to Windows as described here
can I use the bbb-install.sh script and then https://docs.bigbluebutton.org/2.2/dev.html?
And for the domain mydomen.com how to register dns records and IP address?

Thank!

Hi Rustam,

For developing, I recommend Windows Subsystem for Linux. See more here:
https://docs.bigbluebutton.org/2.2/dev.html#developing-on-windows. WSL
makes it super easy and is very lightweight on your system. This would
be for development though. For running a dev server, it's probably not
ideal. For this I'd recommend setting up a DigitalOcean droplet or on
some other provider (or if you have access to servers yourself) to
simulate production conditions.

Domain registration is likely done with your registrar. If you have your
own DNS servers then you just need to point the domain to the right
nameservers. As for the IP, you need to add A or AAAA records to your
DNS zone file.

Thanks, Matias

Hello Matias!
I installed Windows Subsystem for Ubuntu (WSL) on Windows 10.
Then logged in as root
$ sudo -i
Then I wanted to install BBB using bbb-install.sh
I entered such a command
$ wget -qO- https://ubuntu.bigbluebutton.org/bbb-install.sh | bash -s - -v xenial-22 -s localhost -e info @ localhost -w
and got an error
bbb-install: Unable to resolve localhost to an IP address using DNS lookup.
Can you advise how to avoid this error?
Thank!

Hi you need Full Qualified Domain Name bbb-install.sh does not work for localhost

You can set the DNS record for your domain to point to your local IP address like this.

my.domain.net -> 192.168.100.2

If you do that the DNS lookup will work

Although it would be better to use a virtual machine so it is a contained system. I dont kony if BBB would work on WSL.

Hi Rustam,

As others have mentioned, WSL is really useful for using native Linux
commands on Windows. Running BigBlueButton would not be ideal and I
haven't tried it myself. My personal suggestion is for you to self-host
or use cloud hosting for a demo server. I can confirm that this setup
works great. Alternatively, you could just set up a virtual machine on
your local computer. An external dev server is useful to have anyway for
other testing and running some new versions before deploying to prod.
