Hi,

I've seen on twitter there's a cobrowsing module available for BBB, is the source code somewhere in the repo?

There was a long discussion on the list about this a few weeks ago, you can search the archives to find it. There is no co-browsing in the repository I think

Hi Piotr,

There's no cobrowsing module for now in BBB. The thing you've seen on
Twitter is a prototype to check out if it was technically possible
with all the constraint we have (Flash, Iframe, Z-index...), and how
it could be integrated with BBB.

There's still many work to do before having a "real" cobrowsing
feature in BBB. As you can see in the demo, no browsing is done, just
syncing 2 urls between 2 guys using an Iframe integrated in BBB.
That's why there's no module available in the repository. Sorry, but
perhaps in the future BBB will integrate that feature !

Hi,

How would one try to implement the cobrowsing, my idea was to check how dimdim does it and try to reimplement it. We have two people wanting to start on cobrowsing - how would you see it done?

Best,
Piotr

There was a long good discussion on cobrowsing. From what Jeremy says, dimdim's cobrowsing really isn't any good at all, and it would be a waste of time replicating it, so I don't think you should take that route. We need to find a better way to do it.

Inside my head right now, I just heard a legion of people screaming "pleeeeeeease noooooooooooo!!!!!!".

Really, it didn't work on basic sites that had some simple JavaScript.  But, it may have improved.  Go sign up for the free account and try it out.  Just two weeks ago they made their first open source release of the product in over fourteen months.  I haven't downloaded the code yet because I had to register to do it, which I did, and I never received an email on how to get the code.  They've updated the site since then, so it may be easier to download.

I used the old one and it worked with a drupal installation I wanted it to work, I mean you could browse the content of the drupal site and I was basically going for that. But I'd love to do it properly, just have no idea what to start with...

Thinking out load ... Adobe AIR .. Webkit browser .. Find some way to access a local app running in Air from the normal browser. Use a window openend by AIR to do cobrowsing in , Webkit renders website locally including JS/CSS etc etc.

Could a localconnection (SharedObject) perhaps be (ab)used to allow a Flash client , running in a protected browser environment , to talk to a running AIR app .. Hmmmmmmm

Hi Piotr, Hi Jeremy,

I think Jeremy's right. I mean, I think the DimDim way is not a good
way to do this. We could, if we want, reproduce very easily their
Cobrowsing method since my demo showed that we can embed an Iframe
(with well known issues), so this difficulty is passed-throught.

To do that, you just need to copy their ~5 python/cherrypy script +
adapt them to BBB conference session + add rewriting from nginx to
this cherrypy instance + modify my "fake" Cobrowsing module to pass
all request throught that cherrypy proxy. But I think it's not a good
way to do this.

I'm in vacation next week, I'll take time to put on a sheet my thought
about a CoBrowsing feature in BBB. How to do this, etc...

Plus, if you want to I can share my "small" source for the demo "fake"
cobrowsing module in GIT or in a SVN (branches) so everyone can
contribute, but I think before starting coding, we need to do a
prework on this to be sure we don't miss something and it's fully
optimized.

Hi DJP,

Please upload your code to svn once you're back. I could at least try
to port it to air. I am still not sure how to handle login's etc. I
was wondering if it is possible to somehow hook up into the air's html
component's event system and forward events to cobrowsers, but haven't
found anything like that yet.
