After upgrading to the BBB Server 2.2.0-beta.  I received this error and I am unable to access the frontend of the server.  I tried bbb-conf --clean, but still get the same error.

Please advise,

Hi Paul,

How did you do the upgrade?  Was it following the steps at

or using bbb-install.sh (which automates many of the above steps)

There might have been a step missed -- have you used bbb-install.sh in the past for this server?

If so, you can run the same bbb-install.sh again, it will update your server to the latest build of BigBlueButton 2.2-beta.  When running bbb-install.sh, change '-v xenial-200' to '-v xenial-220-beta'.

Hi Paul,

You need to use

wget -qO- https://ubuntu.bigbluebutton.org/bbb-install.sh | bash -s -- -v xenial-220-beta -s bbb.example.com -e us...@example.com -t

and substitute 'bbb.example.com' with the hostname for your server and 'us...@example.com' for your e-mail address.  See

for the options.

Hi Paul,

The bbb-install.sh script will attempt to use Let's Encrypt; however, we're going to modify it shortly so it doesn't do this if you already have a certificate installed.

For now, you could use bbb-install.sh to setup the server with Let's Encrypt, then move back to using your certificate after the install finishes.

However, if your server is behind a firewall and isn't reachable by Let's Encrypt (to validate the domain), then you'll need to go through the steps to manually update the server.  In this case, what's the output of

I have two instances of this server, one was my product server (esxi 6.0) VM.  The other was a backup server.  Tested the bbb.install.sh on my backup server which had many more errors that the production server which I did manually.  The manual upgrade only had error one the bbb-web, that's where it stopped.  Is there a way to purge just this install, bbb-web and reinstall it.?

Thanks,
Paul

You could do "apt-get purge bbb-web bbb-client". Once that's done run "apt-get install bigbluebutton" to install them again.

Were you getting a nginx 404 page from the server or a message from your browser with something like, "This site can't be reached"? The former means that there's an issue with the component that nginx is trying to direct the request to and the latter means that there's a problem with nginx. To check for a problem with nignx you can run "nginx -t" to print any issues that it found with the configuration files.

> bigbluebutton depends on bbb-config; however:
> Package bbb-config is not configured yet.

That error message is also commonly seen when the "yq" package hasn't been installed. It's a new dependency in 2.2 and requires extra steps to install it. You might try running "apt-get install yq" to make sure that it's there.

Hi Once again,

My solution to getting WebCams to work in Chrome (computer or Android) was to change codec_video_main: H264     ->      codec_video_main: ANY

Error:  WebCam not working in Chrome (computer or Android)

vim /usr/local/bigbluebutton/bbb-webrtc-sfu/config/default.yml

# to prevent forcing a specific codec. If you wanna add other codecs (e.g.: VP9)

# add it to the list with its specifiers. If the codec isn't in the list,

# it'll default to the values in VP8, but still force the entered codec.

On iOS, users need to use Safari (not Chrome).  Can you confirm they are using Safari and, if so, can they reproduce the issue using https://test.bigbluebutton.org/?

you are right Fred, it does work with Safari on IOS.  I just tried it from Android though using Chrome just now and I getting errors 1010 and 1007 when I click to use microphone using test.bigbluebutton.org site.  If I let it timeout and click the camera icon, my cell camera works without error.

Any suggestions,

Hi Fred,

I am still getting errors 1010 and 1007 when I connect with audio on https://test.bigbluebutton.org/.  If I wait 10 additional seconds after the two error messages come up, the audio connects and my microphone works.  Camera comes up, I select it and it works too.

When I connect to my BBB server, I do not get these errors, I connect to the audio and my microphone works.  Although, when I click to share my camera there is no camera listed in the drop down box.

Any thoughts,
Paul

P.S Firefox on Android works fine for both audio and sharing camera.

For the server you upgraded, did it have a single IP address or an internal/external IP address and the BigBlueButton server was behind NAT?

I just tried it myself and after installing 2.0-RC11 and upgrading to 2.2-beta3, the server responded fine.  I did this on a Digital Ocean droplet for testing (they provide a single external IP address).

Interested to learn more about your setup to see why it's not upgrading correctly.

Maybe we could start another thread on the specific question relating to installing BBB-2.2.0-Beta using the bbb-install.sh script.

Can you start this thread or should I?

P.S.  The solution I posted in this thread relates to using primarily the manual installation procedure as outline of your site.

Hi German,

Thanks for giving us a closer look at your server.

When we tried to upgrade to 2.2-beta-3 using bbb-install.sh, it gave the following error

Job for nginx.service failed because the control process exited with error code. See "systemctl status nginx.service" and "journalctl -xe" for details

I then did `systemctl status nginx.service` and it gave me the following description

Apr 02 04:07:03 masternutricion.falcorp.net nginx[6258]: nginx: [emerg] duplicate location "/client/BigBlueButton.html" in /etc/bigbluebutton/nginx/re
Apr 02 04:07:03 masternutricion.falcorp.net systemd[1]: nginx.service: Control process exited, code=exited status=1

Looking at your /etc/bigbluebutton/nginx, I could see you had

rewrite.nginx

which was defining `/client/BigBlueButton.html` again, preventing nginx from starting.  I moved rewrite.nginx from this folder, and re-ran the bbb-install.sh script.

It finished without errors and your server is now upgraded to BigBlueButton 2.2-beta-3.
