Moodle with mod_BigbluebuttonBN how to upgrade

Greetings, dear colleagues!

We have the situation: Moodle Version 3.11.15 with mod_BigbluebuttonBN 2.4.7. There is also access to lessons records in the BBB server. We want to update to the latest releases. 

Tell me, how to correctly update Moodle with mod_BigbluebuttonBN  with the existing integration with BBB server and it is very important to __save access to lessons records__ in BBB server?

I want like this:

1. Moodle Version 3.11.15 à 3.11.18 [Latest Release in 3.11]

2. mod_BigbluebuttonBN 2.4.7 à 2.4.9

3. Moodle Version 3.11.18 à Moodle 4.0.12

4. Moodle 4.0.12 à Moodle 4.1 LTS

On the other hand, is it better at the second step: mod_BigbluebuttonBN 2.4.7 à 3.0.8? Then everything is on the list.

Tell me how to correctly update Moodle in order to save existing lessons records and integration with the BBB server.

Hi Konstantin,

it seems English is not your native language (like me), but if you add a "please" before "tell me" it will come much nicer to everybody around here. "Tell me" is a demand, which does not come nice at all.

We updated Moodle from 3.x to 4.x. If I remember correctly there was nothing special needed regarding the migration from plugin (bigbluebuttonbn) to core. If I were you I would do

3.11.5 -> 3.11.18 -> 4.1 (Moodle).

And don't forget to backup, backup, backup!

The recommended way to do it includes all the steps you already mentioned, including updating mod_bigbluebuttonBN from 2.4.9 to 3.0.8. This means:

1. Moodle Version 3.11.15 to 3.11.18 (Latest Release in 3.11)
2. mod_BigbluebuttonBN from 2.4.7 to 2.4.9
3. mod_BigbluebuttonBN from 2.4.9 to 3.0.8
4. Moodle Version 3.11.18 to Moodle 4.0.12
5. Moodle 4.0.12 to Moodle 4.1 LTS

The update to 3.0.9 is successful, but problems appear. In some courses, the list of class recordings has disappeared. An empty table is displayed with the message "No data to display".  In some courses there are a lot of recordings of lessons, in some courses there are only a couple of recordings. I don't understand the pattern. There is a feeling that BigBlueButtonBN is not downloading the list of all records. I tried changing the allowFetchAllRecordings setting in bigbluebutton.properties, but nothing helps. There is a table mdl_bigbluebuttonbn_recordings in the MySQL database. I don’t know how complete the table is. Could you please help me. How to make all lesson recordings appear? Maybe I can download records manually into the mdl_bigbluebuttonbn_recordings in the MySQL database? Thank you in advance!

I restored Moodle 3.11.18 with mod_BigbluebuttonBN from 2.4.9 from a backup. In this configuration everything works for me. I'm using BBB version 2.7.9 (666). There are 6670 lesson recordings on the server. I've looked at some courses. In the course where there are 780 lesson recordings, the update is successful and all recordings are present. But in courses with 350 and 370 lesson recordings, the entire list of lesson recordings disappears when updated mod_BigbluebuttonBN from 2.4.9 to 3.0.9. Could you tell me how the list of lesson recordings is moved to the moodle? Are there a limit on the number of lesson recordings for importing from BBB to Moodle? Could you please help me. Thank you in advance!

Hi,

If the issue is that some recordings are visible whilst others are missing, the likely cause is that the recordings are still being synced from the server. This process can take time if there are a large number of recordings, so make sure your cron is running regularly as this is how the task that handles syncing recordings is executed.
