As you know, we’ve been working on designing the HTML5 interface for BigBlueButton. You can see some of the concepts here

As with each release of BigBlueButton, we strive to simplify the design.  If we can make updates to the UI for each release, we know we’re heading in the right direction.  The HTML5 interface is an opportunity to revisit the interface, from the users perspective, and think about how we can make it better.  The HTML5 project is a parallel project to the 0.81 release, not part of the 0.81 release, but will merge at a later date.

For BigBlueButton 0.81, we are now thinking about how we can take some of the HTML5-based design ideas and apply them to the current Flash interface. With this being said, we’re not talking of large scale changes; rather, making small adjustments within the bounds of the Flash environment to update the product’s look and feel.

Attached is a design concept that we’d like your feedback.

It has a consistent colour scheme (dark blue, grey and white) similar to the HTML5 interface, with updated minimalistic icons, grey used for the module and white as background.

We’ve had the same UI for BigBlueButton for almost five years now.  Take a look and let us know what you think of this design for 0.81.

Tyler, Looks great, and updated... anything to remove the old default
flash blue colors is welcomed, assume the same skinning service for
branding themes will follow in .81a

Awesome! This looks really great.

One question: What does the annotating toolbar look like (ie, the presenter toolbar with the freehand tool and the geometry shapes, etc.)? Is it styled as well?  Is the location still alongside the presentation area vertically or is it horizontally along the bottom of the screen?

Hi Neeraj,

The tools for the whiteboard are not shown in this mockup, but we would be updating their icons as well to match the style of others.

This mockup isn't meant to be an exact representation.. currently we have whiteboard controls always visible, which removes the need for the whiteboard icon in the lower right-hand corner.

We're still working on the core of BigBlueButton, but our intent is to update the design along these lines before we get to beta.

Regards,... Fred
