Is there still development going on with Big5? I haven't seen any updates in the SVN. Hopefully this new framework, LiquidGear, may help move it forward again. I know some of you may be on the PhoneGap list which now seems to be moving a bit quicker on development. You can take a look at LiquidGear at: http://liquidgear.googlecode.com

Some of the differences that were changed/added in LiquidGear to make programming the JS easier:

    * It removes all the NIB files which are not needed.
    * Adds the use of the jQuery events and listeners for a more object oriented structure.
    * Parameters in the "gap" calls are optional and can be in any order.
    * More information is provided in the calls (such as GPS, contacts, etc).

Let me know your thoughts!
Thanks!

Hi Giraldo,

Big Five is not dead but you are right the development has not been
very intensive ;) The Big Five App is in the AppStore since a few
weeks and I am working on a new release. The planning is to make it
even unnecessary for developers to use XCode for their projects. Hope
this will not be rejected by Apple, we'll see.

I personally have been a little absent from the list, because I moved
into a new apartment and it took a while to get all systems running
again and find some time. Hope to answer all open threads soon.

I had a short look at LiquidGear and it looks very cool. It has the
modularization Big Five still needs and the code looks nice and clean.
Did you have a look at the new Javascript API of Big Five? http://www.big5apps.com/api
Maybe this can be useful for you. But if you like we could also
share our efforts under the MIT License and work together on a code
base.

Of course also other interested developers are very welcome to join
the project.

Cheers,
Dirk

Was actually using Big5 for development while experimenting with the concept of a web app. Liked it very much. I believe it even had the call piping before PG. Just started getting got impatient waiting for a few more features like contacts. :)

Like your idea about a losing the XCode hassle all together. It'll be quite tricky. Almost like a standalone web browser, no? I did hear that they are allowing third party web browsers on the iPhone now... And WebKit is open source... Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,
-G
