This past weekend, while in Red Lodge, I lost almost all power in our '09 Mini, only being able to get 1500 rpm. Throttle position made no difference. Long story short, Roadside assistance hauled it to Longmont, CO. where they informed me it was a software glitch in the Valvetronic(?). It was reprogrammed, and all seems well. Anyone else heard of that?

Since ours is a 2005, it is still powered by rubberbands, but goes great.  I did the google search thing:  en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valvetronic     and     www.bmw.com/com/en/insights/technology/.../mm_valvetronic.html     and
www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEELtXVTymU

and  a BMW explanation video:

These are interesting info sources on the topic.  Glad you got it fixed, in a "relatively" easy manner.  Still under warrantee, right? But nearing the end of warrantee?  I would assume that is a dealer only type of fix.  BTW did you get the car transported both ways?  Or did you have to go pick it up?

Thanks Russ,
I also did some research, but the BMW video made it a little more clear. They hauled the Mini on their dime, and paid for the rental, which I had to get in Billings. I had to pay for the flight down, and about 3/4 of a tank of gas to ge to Red Lodge. Naturally, I would have bought my own gas to get back to Great Falls.

The Roadside assistance is a pretty good deal. I 'negotiated' for the car rental because, according to the RA statement, they will pay for Trip Interruption Reimbursement as well asTrip Routing Service, but you have to ask! The RA is good for 4 years from the original 'in service', which is when we picked it up.

BTW, Longmont is a new dealership, only about 2 years old. They did pick me up at the Denver airport, and droveme back to the dealership in a new coupe. For some reason, it looked like a Mini inside, but I felt very cramped. Probably has to do with larger doors, and smaller windows. Nice, though.

To All and anyone who has been following this thread, I have made a mistake. The dealership is in LOVELAND, Colorado. They opened in mid-2012, and are very eager to please. Easy access off I25 makes it a very attractive location. Sorry for any confusion. Our MINI is in fine working order and handled the trip back, through Yellowstone, very well. Still very smokey...
