Upcoming Events:
Buffalo Beer Week is quickly approaching. We'll be around town checking out many of the events as patrons ourselves. But we'll also be vendors at many of the events as well! On of the kickoff events for Beer Weeks is the Ball Park Brew Bash on September 21. This is one of the area's premiere beer events that we look forward to every year.
Food Truck Tuesdays @ Larkin on September 24. Great changes have been seen in Buffalo lately, and Larkinville is one of the examples of progress. Every Tuesday is packed with local food trucks and music. Come join us and check out our table!
Alternative Brews local brewery tasting on September 26. Alternative Brews has always been a supporter of great beers, and one of our earliest supporters as well. At this event we'll be bringing samples of our newest prototypes, alongside other great local breweries.
Check News and Events often for the latest updates.
What's in the fridge?
Who?:
The Bruery - Sour in the Rye
What?:
American Wild Ale - 7.8%
Where?:
Placentia, CA
Why?:
I first had this beer at the Meridian Pint in DC at this years Craft Brewers Conference, and immediately fell in love with it. When I found it available locally (as part of a limited release)... I danced.
This pours a rich coppery/orange with a white head that quickly dissipates. It's aroma is full of tart citrus fruit, sour apple and mildly funky. Upon first sip its mouth puckering, but still has a balanced acidity. It has a crisp and medium-bodied mouthfeel, likely from the contribution of the rye. This is one of my all time favorite sour beers as it is very easy-drinking and a great beverage to share with a friend as the summer closes.

Blogging: Latest and Greatest
Yep, it's been busy. Why wouldn't is be? We're opening a brewery! Here's what we've been up to - in case you've missed it. Read More
What's brewing?
On deck, our fall seasonal which is an American Amber Ale we brew with cinnamon and local apple cider. This beer has been fermenting away and will soon require the addition of what else? APPLES! This should hit the spot for the coming fall season.
We haven't had much time until recently to experiment and make some new styles - so of course we're pretty excited! What will we be brewing first? A Saison! Whats the twist? Nothing...yet. The goal is to build a solid base and experiment with variables from there.
I've always had a love affair with a great porter. Experiment #2 will be an English-style Brown Porter, which will use traditional English malts and hops. It's difficult to get a fresh example of this style in America as almost all of the best examples are brewed overseas. Our hope is for this beer to have a great toasted, chocolate, malty flavor...but we can't give all the plans away. Stay tuned.

Dear Sam Mule
Dear Sam:
I have enjoyed following your progress. What I enjoy the most is that you guys seen to be very 'Buffalocentric'. I support the community and the area the best that I can and I can't wait to support you guys as well. What influences have Buffalo and Western New York had on you can what do you hope to give back to it?
We feel that Buffalo is incredibly underrated as a city. Buffalo is clean, diverse, easy to get around, and above all has amazingly friendly people living here. The community has been very supportive of us and we thank them for it. We've said many times that there's no place that we'd want to start a brewery besides Buffalo. That being said, we also feel that Buffalo deserves some respect from outsiders. If you've never been to Buffalo, you may think of snow (it's really not that bad), or the Bills (sorry - can't do much about that.) Along with our fellow local breweries, we want to put Buffalo on the map for something positive - a vibrant brewing community that is respected for the quality of its craft beer. This has been one of our drivers from the beginning, and will continue to be so.
