Frommedia files to critical documents and more, we store all of our data on our computers. However, there are times when we find out that some files are missing from our system. This could be due to an unexpected system crash or data corruption or deletion. This sudden disappearance of our data causes us to worry. This is where regular data backups play their part. They provide immediate assistance in restoring data.

We create folders and partitions to store our files in an organized manner. But as the data increases, it becomes tedious to navigate between the folders to look for a specific file. In certain cases, we even tend to forget the exact location of the file. And then there are malware attacks and unexpected system crashes, which could also lead to data loss.

In certain scenarios, you could have accidentally hidden the files you are looking for. You can unhide them and see them. To do this, open the folder from where the files have gone missing and click on View in the ribbon > check Hidden items in the Show/hide section. You can also look for your missing files in Quick access, which shows recently accessed files and frequently used folders.

Sometimes, the files that you are looking for could have been accidentally deleted. If you have accidentally deleted some files and not emptied the Recycle Bin, you can find them there. But if you have used the SHIFT + DELETE key combination, which permanently deletes the files, you will not find your files there.

If you have created and maintained regular backups of your files either on cloud or locally on a storage media like HDD or SSD, you can use them to recover your missing files on your Windows 10/11 computer.

Employing the above mentioned methods should help you find lost or missing files back. However, if nothing from the above gives a fruitful result, you can take help of a versatile data recovery tool. Stellar Data Recovery is a great tool for recovering missing files. It can recover any type of file from numerous storage devices like HDD, SSD, Thumb drives, and more.

This software can easily recover data lost in various data loss scenarios like corruption, formatting, accidental deletion, etc. You simply have to launch the software and select the file type and the location from where it was lost. The software will do all the heavy lifting and will find the missing or deleted files. It also offers an enhanced Preview feature, which allows you to check your files for data integrity before recovering. You can also perform Deep scan during which it will search every sector for recoverable data.

Malware attack or worms could cause the files on desktop and other locations to go missing as malware go rampant and start deleting or rewrite the files. This causes files to suddenly disappear or even get corrupted.

If you hibernate windows (or purpose or because of power-saving), then use ubuntu to store files on the NTFS partition, and then boot up windows, Windows thinks the disk was corrupted while it was in hibernate and "fixes" anything different. After that loging back into ubuntu just confirms that the files have in-fact been deleted.

Also I have seen that windows 7 may do a chkdsk after it installs updates on shudown when you bring it back up windows does extra tasks related to installing updates, so be careful not to boot into ubuntu after shutting down from updates. -newbie-8/windows-chkdsk-deletes-files-written-by-ubuntu-on-an-ntfs-partition-913606/

Edit: I was looking through the widows site to try and find if they detailed the hibernate process, but this sounds interesting -us/library/dd143253(v=winembedded.5).aspx , It seems at best the write caching from the harddrive is being saved to memory, then being written after bringing the drive back up, this may mean that the files can't be recovered, because it's not "deleting" as in removing the first letter of the file so the system does not see it, but actually overwriting large areas of data that have been cached. Needs to be looked into more.

It happened to me as well. After reading a lot about this on internet I came to know that this happens when Windows is in Hibernate mode. There are already some related questions here on askubuntu and also on superuser.

My Chief Architect or Home Designer file was here yesterday, but today it seems to be missing. Where is the first place I should look for my missing plan or layout* file?

*Layout files are only available in Chief Architect Premier, Chief Architect Interiors and Home Designer Pro.

Chief Architect programs save files to the location on your computer that you have chosen to save them; the program cannot delete files from your system.

In this article, we will discuss how to check your Recycle Bin/Trash and search your operating system for lost or missing Chief Architect files. If you're unable to locate the original file you were working on, you may be able to locate a backup of the file within the Chief Architect or Home Designer Archives.

Not all versions of Chief Architect will be supported on every operating system listed above.

Please check the System Requirements for your version of Chief Architect or Home Designer if you have any questions as to whether or not your version is supported under your operating system.

The third party information presented in this document was verified at its writing, however, it's subject to change.

If the missing or lost files cannot be located in your operating system's Recycle Bin or Trash, it is possible they haven't been deleted, but may be at a different location then you initially checked. Use the search function in your operating system to locate them.

If you encountered a power failure or forced system restart before you were able to save your most recent changes in the file, you may be able to locate a recent backup which has much of the data still saved in it.

To learn more, please see the "Accessing Your Archive Files" resource in the Related Articles section below.

Archive files are meant to be for emergency use only and should not be used as your primary backup method for plan and layout files.

If you do not already have a backup system in place, please see "Backing up Chief Architect Content" in the Related Articles section below.

If you are not able to access your hard drive, or if you are unable to find your missing data, contact a computer professional in your area.

Alternatively, use another computer to search the Internet for a data recovery expert, as you may be experiencing a hard drive failure resulting in data loss that could become more serious as time goes on.

For future reference on how Chief Architect recommends organizing your files, please see the "Organizing your Plan and Layout Files" linked in the Related Articles section below.

Hey Guys, Sorry for my level of tech know how but Id like help determining what has gone wrong and how to fix / recover my files. Ive no idea what has gone wrong. My NAS was fine yesterday. Both drives appear to be detectiable by the NAS and while windows can connect to my NAS Its not detecting anywhere near 50% of the files I had !

If you are the original purchaser, then your best option is Netgear support - you can get per-incident paid support via my.netgear.com. They would investigate, and if needed you'd need to escalate to a separate data recovery contract.

I am the origional purchaser but ive had the unit a number of years now and I doubt it will still be under warrenty. I did not have RAID setup so any failure of hardware if that is the case will have to be investigated in due course. Hopefully by not having raid makes resolving this simplet but possiabally increases the likely hood of data loss. What I need is information on what I should do first ! What are the most likely or common design failures of this product so that i can investigate myself. Could it be the file database needs rebuilding like ive read in other posts ? I dont want to start this process for fear of making things worse however as ive read that some things I could try to fix things can be very unforgiving and totally screw things up. Im also unable to pay for paid support as Im currently unemployed so !!!! Im living on a wing and a prayer. Any and all help is appreciated.

Let's step back a bit though, and confirm what NAS you have. You indicate a v2, but the labels are confusing and many v1 owners mistakenly think they have a v2. Can you read this article, and then confirm your NAS model?

Ok ive checked the unit and the unit Model is RND - 2B, The Product Code is RND 2000-200EUS and the 'Name' on the front door is ReadyNAS Duo v2. Also when i run Netgear ReadyNas RAIDar it also shows the Model as ReadyNAS Duo v2 and is running firmware 5.3.6.

I bought and installed 2 Seagate 3000Gb or 2 Tb harddrives seperately but they were on the approved list. I checked that before i bought them ! Im not sure what you mean if i have 2 volumes ? I think my PC sees them as one disk. SO maybe RAID is selected but with no redundancy. Im fairly certain i went for whatever option that maximised my storage potential. !

Im running Windows 7 and have been using my Network Icon to access the network which Im guessing is some form of File Explorer. I can see my Backup,Homepage and Media partitions but cant access anyof them currently however yesterday I did have partial access to the media partition but only a small number of folders was available within it.
