Hi,

I have a question regarding longitudinal study and multiple session. Is there any recommendation about the participant.tsv file?

I know it is an optional file in BIDS1.0.2 but I would be interested in the opinion of the BIDS community to store the age of each participant for instance, for each session of a longitudinal study in the participant.tsv file

Hi,

Thanks for joining the community.

For recommendation for longitudinal studies check out section 9 of the spec. Subject specific variables (constant overs sessions) should be stored in the participants.tsv file, but session specific variables should go into sessions.tsv files (section 9.1).

I hope this helps!

Best,
Chris

Hi,

Thank you for this answer! It makes sense regarding variables as age

However, what about including a phenotypic file in case of multiple session?
- One file under "dataset/phenotype/" directory with a additional column session_id? I guess it would break the rule of having only on raw per subject_id if this kind of files follows the same rules as participants.tsv
- One phenotypic file per subject under a directory "dataset/sub-xxx/phenotype/" with each row corresponding to a session?

Regards,

Grégory

Hi,
Those should go into _sessions.tsv files (see section 9.1 http://bids.neuroimaging.io/bids_spec1.0.2.pdf).

Best,
Chris

That is what I assumed but I was not sure about it. In this case, how to include a JSON file describing the measurement tools and how to store it (location and filename)? Should it be _sessions.json file including all the measurement tool descriptions?

Regards,

Grégory

Best,
Chris

Yes - that's correct. The format of this file is described in section 4.2

Best,
Chris
