Bar Code Data Capture

I will admit my bias right up front. I am a fan of bar coding.  We have seen bar coding revolutionize manufacturing and retail.  Many years ago when I was a teenager, I worked in a store as a cashier.  At that time we had to actually enter the price for every item by punching in the numbers- including decimal point. You get pretty fast at it, but I am sure I still made lots of errors. In Canada where I used to live, we now have many "self checkouts" in our grocery stores. Even my kids when they were less than 5 years old, were faster at scanning the items at the check out than I ever was when entering them in as a cashier. More importantly, you can't make a mistake. What is read in, is what the code is. Fast, easy and accurate- what's not to love? Many of our BID interventions will be trying out bar codes for data input. We will be sharing our findings and lessons learned as we go along, but I would love to hear any feedback you may already have based on your experiences out there already. Don't let us repeat the same mistakes!
