New Webinar: Estimating the costs of a National Immunization Strategy (NIS)

Updated guidance to support countries in the development of National Immunization Strategies (NIS) is now available in English, French and Russian at https://www.who.int/teams/immunization-vaccines-and-biologicals/vaccine-access/planning-and-financing/nis.

The Guidance is accompanied by a new and simplified costing approach to support the NIS process, NIS.COST https://immunizationeconomics.org/unicef-niscost, as well as guidance on Annual Operational Planning (AOPs).

The new NIS guidance focuses on more informed, country owned, and sustainable decision-making and the prioritization of interventions needed to reach zero dose children and communities in line with Immunization Agenda 2030. It also supports a dialogue between Ministry of Health and Finance leads to ensure an agreed financial envelope is available to fund NIS key strategic priorities. In addition, there is greater emphasis on a broad and inclusive dialogue at the country level and greater integration with the health care system beyond immunization.

This second webinar in a series will provide an introduction to NIS.COST is a new approach developed by UNICEF for estimating the costs and budget implications of implementing a five-year National Immunization Strategy.

Please join us for a webinar:

Re: The new WHO equipment Inventory and Gap Analysis (IGA) application

Dear Maricel

Thank you for this interesting tool.

The 2021 CCE Gap Analysis Tool version includes a tab for PQEqpt (WHO PQS Prequalified equipment) that contains much of the product information for specific equipment that is developed when that equipment undergoes prequalification PQS protocols.  The tool (2019, 2021) took it a step further by combining this info into energy consumption indicators based on volumes (e.g. daily watt hour per net liters of vaccine storage and/or per liters (kg) of water pack freezing capacity).

This is a useful approach to compare the electricity consumption of mains powered appliances on a fair basis since all prequaified appliances must pass the same rigor where both their volume(s) and electrcity consumption is established through identical protocols carried out at WHO accredited test labs.

I recommend that this same set of indicators be continually supported by WHO in order for stakeholders to have one more way to consider environmental impacts of cold chain equipment selections.

Respectfully submitted

Re: Webinar: Cold chain equipment inventory made easy using the Inventory and Gap Analysis application

Dear Maricel,

I would like to understand if countries can start using the new cold chain inventory tool? Ministry of Health needs to update the national cold chain equipment inventory so they are interested in using the new tool. If so please share the tool.
