I think I stayed subscribed to this list all these years in part because I enjoyed Jim Foreman’s posts.

Never met the man, but he made a big impression on me as an interesting man of purpose.

As a subscriber to his YouTube channel, I learned today that he has passed away. I’m sorry to pass this news along.

This is really sad news. Jim seemed to have a story about almost everything. He experienced more in his life than I ever will and I’ll miss hearing about all of his adventures.

I still have his chicken fried steak recipe that I need to try so I may give that a shot in his honor.

I first met Jim in 1999 on my long tour that year. Moore was one of my routing points. I knew Jim from the touring list and he invited me to stay with them. Moore  became a regular part of my summer tours across the USA. I last stayed with Jim and Freeda on my Tour11 - my last cross USA tour - a dozen years later in Texas. That was the second time I'd stayed with them in Texas. I rode through Moore to visit them but, after they retired to the Fort Worth area, my visits were by rental car during the middle of a tour.

Jim was one of my favorite people and I think lots of folks on the list felt that way about him. Thank you for giving the list that link to the goodbye video.

I met Jim when I was occasionally flying sailplanes out of Black Forest gliderport in Colorado Springs in the early 1980s.   He was a regular there.   I sort of lost track of him for a bit when I quit going out there and was happy to meet up with him again in the bicycle touring community.  He never failed to have a good story.   I'll miss him, too.

When I was a young man of 50 (20 years ago) I figured I should leave my home in the east and ride in the Rockies of Colorado.  I asked this listserv for advice and it was Jim Foreman who came up for me with a route from Trinidad to Colorado Springs.  His letter suggested a way to Ute Pass (a great and exhausting climb!) and advice on Guffey, Colorado (a tiny town he seemed to know quite well) where I spent a memorable evening.  I’ve loved his posts here.  I’m still touring and I lift a glass tonight to Jim Foreman.

I "met" Jim during the early days of the touring list. He was so knowledgeable and so forthcoming with help and  information. Such a stalwart of the touring group. He will be so missed!

Thank you, Brian, for posting this sad news and especially the video from Jim's son. I was pleased to learn that he enjoyed a large, supportive family.
In 2011 Jim taught me that "touring is just riding your bike until you get tired and then finding a place to sleep and eat. In the morning, wake up and repeat until you get where you want to be."  It was great advice because it simplified what seemed to me, at the time, to be a complicated event. I also enjoyed Jim's folksy videos. It seems he lived a full life with a loving family and lots of adventures. Mr. Carson, from Downton Abbey said, "The business of life is the acquisition of memories and in the end that's all we have left."  I believe Jim acquired  many wonderful memories and thanks to video technology his descendants will enjoy his recollections for generations to come.  To his family, my most sincere condolences.

Met Jim on my trip to OKC (Moore) to pick up my Rans Stratus which he had for me from his friend from whom I had bought it. It was my first recumbent. Visited with Jim and his sweet wife. Had several  chances to meet up with Jim in OKC from time to time over the years when there on business. He was a most interesting fellow and we had great talks on many subjects. His escapades as a pilot were most entertaining. He gave me a book he wrote which left you wondering if there was really any fiction to it. It very much pictured the Jim I came to know.

Too bad the good guys have to pass on. Jim could have shared much more with us.

Rest in Peace, my Friend!

Really sad to hear this.  Jim was one of a kind.  Never met personally, but corresponded as friends.  First made contact with him when he mentioned a certain notorious woman  who ran the "Happy Bottom Riding Club" in So Cal. back when I was a kid living in Mojave in the '50s-60s.  He was quite the story teller.  He will be greatly missed by many around the world.

Yes, so true. Such generosity of spirit and love of life... I'm sorry I didn't get to meet Jim in person. We exchanged emails over the years and I always appreciated his insight and thoughts.

JIm was just a few years younger than my parents, both of whom I lost in the past year.  People their age saw the world change in many ways. From WW II to www... From the Great Depression through the Great Recession... From the shadow of the Spanish flu to the current pandemic... Perhaps because of changes that they saw, that they lived through, that they accomplished,-- the stories they told,-- funny or serious -- seem to resonate deeply.

Jim, like my parents didn't seem to be pining for the good ole days... Instead he and they seemed to have thrived on learning new things throughout their lives.

Jon
