Hello all,
I'm starting to research whether there are any short day (or 1 night) trips out of Hartford, for an upcoming trip.  I've not found Bike rentals too common there, but thought I'd ask if you have any routes you might suggest. I see there's a substantial bike route west of the city (farmington trail?), but I wont have a car, so limited to start/end in Hartford.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts !

I've biked from Hartford to Northampton/Amherst several times over the last20 years.
The route has improved tremendously.  The railtrail has increased the access to safe biking.
We used to ride Route 202 round trip from Hartford.

It's no longer necessary.
Enjoy..

Thanks Malaika ...
I contemplated bringin my own Ti all road bike, but not staying long enuf.
I also had to hunt around to find rental shop ... think I found one out WEST of downtown Hartford
They rent Aluminum (argh) Specialized SiriusX 2.0.... ok for limited miles I guess.

West there seems an interesting route, a loop (attached), low mileage ..but I'm sure I can add more goin north too.

Thanks again for your help... this list HAS been great resource to me - I just checked my email archive, and see the first trip you helped me with was May 2011  !!!
take care

Don’t discount using a used or low end bicycle for a day or two.

Years ago I flew to Boston, purchased a low end bicycle at Target, did a 3 day organized ride in the mountains of northern Vermont and a single day solo ride in Rhode Island.

True, the bike had been assembled by an amateur.
True, it had low end components never seen in a bike shop
True, it was far less expensive than bringing my bike on a plane or shipping it
True, it was wasted after only 300 miles but I donated it to a non profit after I was done
