It was bound to happen.
With gas prices approaching $4 a gallon, motorists have begun to drive less.
The recent decline reverses a trend of rising consumption that until now
was coinciding with an economic recovery.
According to tracking firm MasterCard SpendingPulse, gas consumption fell
3.6 percent for the week of April 1, the steepest decline since December.
Despite the clear upward surge of gas prices, some analysts were still
caught by surprise.
More people are going to work. That means more people are driving
and they should be buying more gas, said John Gamel, director of
gasoline research for MasterCard.
Meanwhile others are forecasting prices to hit $5 a gallon this year.

At the beginning of the Libyan conflict we hit $4.20 at the cheapest
gas station on the Island. It has since dropped down to $4.08/9.
I am surprised at how many are still driving pickups and SUV's.
According to a motoring organisation website, the March average price
in the UK was 1.39 GBP per litre, which seems to convert to $8.22 per
US gallon.
Haven't bought any for 6-7 years
