How far does a car door open?

I tried Google, but I can't find typical or extreme numbers for how far a car door opens.  I've heard it's about 3 feet max, but am looking for confirmation.

Those are actual measurements. They are to be trusted. A San Francisco study measured how far people actually opened the door -- often, not all the way, and gave an 85% number.  That is, you only would hit 15% of the doors.
