What would you call this type of between-intersections collision?

http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2012/05/29/3274475/pedestrian-struck-on-sharon-lane.html

Whoever wrote the link described the cyclist as a pedestrian, but the article itself doesn’t.  The cyclist was definitely riding in a pedestrian manner, however, on the sidewalk.  He caught a handlebar end on a trash container while trying to go around it, fell into the road, and got hit by a truck.

If he’d been right side up when struck, it would be a bicyclist rideout.  I guess this would be a bicyclist fallout.

Hello Mark and All,

How sad, Drew was only 14 years old.

Condolences to his family and friends.

Most likely Drew would have been safer on the street or in a bike lane.

Hopefully more education and bicycle infrastructure will come from the crash and help prevent similar deaths.

When I was a kid with my paper route I got hit by a car in the middle of an intersection.

Luckily I was able to drop my bike (I was stopped - waiting to cross) and watch the car driver run over my bike.

It was a lady that had dropped something in the car and was not looking at where she was driving and not driving very fast which helped me get away.

My dad got her to pay for a new bike but I missed my old one.

I had the same accident (minus the 18-wheeler).  One of the few times I have ridden on the sidewalk I clipped a garbage can and fell to the left (into the street).  Fortunately traffic was crawing, and the car I fell in front of stopped easily.  I was on the sidewalk because traffic was backed up more than a block, but since then it seems too much of a risk for a small time savings.

It felt to me more like a dooring than a rideout.

The collision mechanism is the same as Dooring in that the bicyclist is
thrust left and onto his back. Hitting an object with the left side of
the handlebar would catapult you right.

Perhaps striking something with the handlebar could be called
Dead Bugged.
