I'm thinking of getting these panniers from Amazon to use for shopping. My Ortleibs are too small, unwieldy, and look a bit weird in the grocery store. Anybody used these or have a better suggestion? Thanks!

Elias,

At the very least, I’d suggest you at least look at Arkel panniers, if you’re looking for something that’s well designed, high quality and built to last.

Thanks for the link to the Arkel site! I think this other one would be more suited to the application I'm thinking of though:

I'm open to anyone else's suggestions too!

I’m sure you’re correct.  I forwarded the Arkel link before you noticed you’d not attached the link to Amazon.

Those look nice, I'll bet they do the trick.

I've used "townies" with some limited success - If I try to carry it
all home in my panniers I have to go shopping like every other day...
if you really wanna bring home the goods you need a trailer.
But, that not withstanding:

For milk and bread runs I leave the townies hooked onto the bike and
just run my cable through them (not just through the handle but mine
have a little opening in the corner where the seams aren't sewn quite
all the way).

A milk crate fastened to the rack suits some folks just fine.

There is some info in cyberspace about hooking the square plastic
buckets that cat litter is sold in to a bike rack and using them like
a pannier... these things offer plenty of protection for your grub
when you click the lid down. Some brands of cat food have a hinged
lid, I think that would work better than the removable ones in some
cases and where it didn't you could still pop it off. Cheap, but they
look like it too. Well, I guess if you ain't got a cat or a girl
friend with a cat it may not be so cheap.
