Date: Sunday July 1, 2007
Times:

Meet/ Lunch: 12n
Rehearsal: 1p
Ride: 2p
Arrive at BFF Block Party/ Perform: 3p

Location: We will meet up on the outskirts of downtown and have light
lunch. My top considerations right now are Union Bagel or Via Café in
Chinatown, a spot on Olvera St. might also be nice. We may be rolling
with dog, if so, outdoor dining is a must.

I will scope out some rehearsal locations in the next day or two (near
union station or china town).

I am cooking up a route that I will test this week which will take us
through some really cool pedestrian locations/ street culture, some
decent bike roads, and some quieter neighborhoods. The ride will be a
leisurly 5 miles we will try and strike a pace that is not painfully
slow but will give everyone a chance to regroup regularly.

Our actual performance at the BFF will be short and sweet. Then we can
join the block party.

Thanks all.
I look forward to seeing you all this Sunday.

i am working this sunday :( that means lunchie and i won't make it to
the performance :< we're very sad.

so unless there are other doggs in the mix, you guys can dine indoors.
in soothing air conditioned spaces - if you're into things like that.

may i also suggest the cornfields (no shade) or the goldline station
as a rehearsal location? there's an open space under the lightrail
overpass at the goldline station towards the cornfields side that
might offer a good space for a bbe circle.

have fun!

Looking foward. do you all have a meeting place? If i cannt make the
meal where should we meet up to start the ride? There is the chinatown
stop where sins and sprockets meets up.

Hello All,
I'm working out the details of the ride.
I did some scouting yesterday and I will do a bit more today or
tomorrow.
For the sake of simplicity, Union Station is going to be the meet up
point.
For those who want to eat and socialize: Lets meet at Union Bagel at
around Noon.
We can take our food outside to the Metropolitan water district plaza
(where our rehearsal will be) just south of the Union Station main
building.
Just exit the doors, on the side of the building where union bagel is
and you should see the fountain. (see attached photo)

So to recap:
optional brunch/snack/social: 12 noon (union bagel)
Rehearsal: 1p (mwd plaza)
Ride departs/ performance starts: 2p (mwd plaza)
Arrival at block party:3p (heliotrope/melrose)

The route:

OK ... I'm not gonna lie. There are a some hills and at 2pm it will
be about 80º out.
The good news is that we have plenty of time to arrive: 1 hour to go
5 miles.
We will not leave anybody. Everybody can ride at whatever pace they
feel comfortable.
We will regroup regularly. If you are a slower rider, don't beat your
self up trying to keep pace
especially up the hills, ride at a comfortable pace, we will wait for
you and we won't be impatient or annoyed.

I think this route is going to be worth it. We are going to pass some
amazing spots.
We have plenty of time to do this, so while we will ride a
comfortable pace, we should have plenty of time to make our scheduled
performance time.
In fact I am expecting that we will arrive 10 or 15 minutes early and
we will have a moment to collect ourselves and get beverages at the
liquor store on heliotrope just south of melrose so we can be
refreshed for the second part of our performance.

The ups and downs of our route have actually inspired the composition
we will play at the Block Party.
The theme of this performance is expansion and contraction. As we
ride up and down the hills that lay between
downtown and our destination (hel/mel) we will naturally spread out a
bit and collect as we wait for each other.
Our sound will therefore gather force as we come together, and become
more sparse as we spread out.

The composition we will be referring to will be an interpretation of
the actual elevation of our route, and will, in some ways replicate
the sounds that we create on the ride.
This should make much more sense as we look at the score and get
into our rehearsal.

Don't forget to make sure you have a bell in good working order
before the ride.

On behalf of the BBE. Thanks for your interest and support. I'm
looking forward to a veyr fun day!
