With the full album coming to streaming services as soon as Friday, December 1, excitement around both the Philadelphia Eagles and the Philly Specials has never been higher, and Hall has never been more invested in both.
LaBelle's career began in the early 1960s as the lead singer of the group "Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles." Referred to as the "Godmother of Soul," she became a soloist in 1976 and has released 19 studio albums, including two holiday albums.
The initial album consists of covers of classic Christmas songs and features duets with Eagles play-by-play announcer Merrill Reese and other players, including Jalen Hurts, A. J. Brown, Brandon Graham, Haason Reddick, and Jordan Davis.[2] All proceeds from the album go towards the Children's Crisis Treatment Center in Philadelphia.[1]
Kelce said that the group of offensive linemen first considered writing the album in 2021.[1] Both Mailata and Kelce have had a background in singing.[4] In 2015, Kelce performed a cover of Cover Me Up by Jason Isbell and his original song Homes Change on WXPN.[4] In 2022, Mailata appeared on the television series The Masked Singer.[4] Mailata has been described as "evoking Frankie Valli in his singing."[5]
According to Billboard, the album sold 3,000 copies between December 1, 2022 and December 22.[6] In the week ending December 29, the album sold 11,000 copies.[6] It entered the Billboard 200 chart at No. 80.[7]
Do you guys know if there will be a CD made? Would like to listen to it in the car with family during the holidays every year going forward but it looks like they only released a vinyl record album. Anyone have any ideas? Maybe burn a cd but where could I find a digital copy?
The Eagles are back with another Christmas album, complete with an extra gift to fans: Unlike last year, when vinyl copies were limited to a lucky handful, this year there should be plenty to go around.
The lyrics, sung from the perspective of Santa on Christmas Eve, originated as a poem Kelce had written when he was trying to get his newborn to sleep, according to Barwin, who thinks parents will find the song particularly touching. The rest came together as part of a collaborative process with the musicians working on the album.
Jason Kelce, Lane Johnson and Jordan Mailata will release a second Christmas album -- "A Philly Special Christmas Special" -- this fall, according to a new release. An official release date has yet to be announced.
"A Philly Special Christmas Special" will be sold as a limited-edition red vinyl, limited-edition gold vinyl and a double disc including the first album. It will also be available on all streaming services.
Like a weekly advent calendar of catchy tunes, a new track released each Friday through the month of December until the entire album became available on Dec. 23. It's on Spotify just in time for the team's Christmas Eve game against the Cowboys.
In addition to the virtual release, the album is available for purchase on the official website: There will also be a limited amount of signed vinyl records available at the Eagles Pro Shop at Lincoln Financial Field on Saturday, December 3rd.
"I had an idea that doing a Christmas album would be great. The problem is, I can't sing, so I knew I was going to have to coax guys that could sing to come do this. That's when I went to Jordan, Lane, and some actual musicians."
The Philadelphia Eagles linemen whose Christmas album proved to be one of the hottest gifts last holiday season have teamed up on a follow-up release. This time, they recruited Patti LaBelle and some other Philadelphia-area musicians to join them.
A online preorder for vinyl copies of the album takes place Nov. 3. A pressing on red vinyl will cost $75. A double album on gold vinyl, which includes both LPs, is priced at $125. The albums will ship after Thanksgiving.
This year's album includes 11 tracks, including a cover of Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You," and an original song, "Santa's Night," written and sung by Kelce. And it features LaBelle, a two-time Grammy Award winner and and R&B legend. Other performers include singer Amos Lee and members of The Hooters, The War on Drugs, Dr. Dog, Mewithoutyou, Huffamoose, Sun Ra Arkestra and The Silver Ages Choir.
"It's so much fun and an honor to be working with this incredible group of people, watching old friends and new friends all come together to make something really special," said ex-Eagle Connor Barwin, the album's executive producer.
"A Philly Special Christmas Special" was produced by Charlie Hall of The War on Drugs. It was recorded in Elm Street Studios in Conshohocken and mixed by Nick Krill. The album is being released by Vera Y Records, a label named after Kelce's daughter Wyatt and Barwin's daughter Vera.
The Christmas album, A Philly Special Christmas, which features several Philadelphia Eagles players, Patti LaBelle, and the Kelce brothers, is No. 2 on the Billboard Vinyl Charts (for the deluxe edition) and No. 3 (for the regular 2023 edition).
The Philadelphia Eagles released the second "A Philly Special Christmas" album this week, featuring Jason Kelce and Jordan Mailata, with an appearance by Grammy-award-winning icon Patti LaBelle, who joined the group for a rendition of the popular classic "This Christmas."
"I don't know if you could call what I did singing," Jason Kelce joked to ESPN about last year's album. "I'm very much just like a yeller in certain tones. There are some songs on there that I think are going to shock people, especially people who haven't heard Jordan Mailata sing."
It has been confirmed that Kansas City Chiefs' Travis Kelce, will be singing alongside his brother Jason Kelce on the Philadelphia Eagles' 2nd Christmas album, A Philly Special Christmas Special!
Joining the Eagles offensive linemen (Jason Kelce, Lane Johnson and Jordan Mailata), Travis will be hopping on a track of the charitable album, which will benefit Children's Crisis Treatment Center and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP).
I say successful because the first Christmas album had over 3,000 sales before the official release and then 11,000 in the first week, catapulting it to the top of the Billboard Christmas Music Charts. Furthermore, the sales of the album raised $1.25 Million which was distributed to 25 local charities including the the Children's Crisis Treatment Center.
The Kelce Brothers announced the second Christmas Album proceeds will go towards the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's efforts to give sick children presents during the Christmas holiday season and also more money will go to CCTC for their toy drive. The new album will be released on December 1st and pre-sale is November 3rd.
Jason, the future Hall of Fame Center, confirmed the news that his brother Travis will be one of the guest vocalists for this second Christmas album. Travis said the production team made him sound "extremely better" than he actually is at singing and Jason said that their team are "magicians" to make everything sound good.
Aside from the core three of Jason Kelce, Eagles Right Tackle Lane Johnson, and Eagles Left Tackle Jordan Mailata (who is a very gifted singer and performed at his own wedding), they are also welcoming onto the second Christmas album "The Godmother of Soul" Patti LaBelle and Indie Music Band Waxahatchee.
Both albums were recorded in the football offseason, and released to rousing success. A Philly Special Christmas topped the early 2023 Billboard charts for compilation albums, selling more than 75,000 copies, and raising $1.25 million for charities throughout the region.
More than that, the offensive line displayed some vocal chops on the record, setting higher expectations of a sequel. So album producer Charlie Hall began recruiting an all-star roster of Philadelphia musicians.
Like the city of Philadelphia itself, both The Silver Ages and the Philly Special Christmas albums have been made richer with an infusion of South Jersey talent: Bennett and McElroy are both Collingswood residents, as is trumpeter Matt Cappy, who helped recruit Patti LaBelle; Howkins hails from Audubon.
