Deqaf Studio have created an enticing story with a distinctive visual appeal that does not quite achieve the lofty heights of the golden age of point-and-click adventuring that it is referencing. The tale has a short lifespan and puzzle logic can be hit and miss. The developers have hinted that a sequel is in the works, and so hopefully the foundations that are in place will help create a more satisfying walk in the woods the next time.

The woods are a mysterious hand-drawn wonderland filled with original fairy-tale creatures. Some of these monsters are evil and will not think twice about taking the player's life, while others are docile and hide when approached. Each monster has its own unique design which can be both cute and terrifying, and they are interesting enough for players to long to know the lore behind each one. Creepy Tale does not inherently tell the player the lore of the woods, but the environments are built in such a way that they tell their own stories.
Leda does a superb job with this comic as a feeling of being ill-at-ease permeates the whole thing. The artwork in particular imparts a creepy vibe as cute little Ruth seems to encounter a dark force that could possibly mean her serious harm. The way the imagery of the cornstalks fill and shift around the pages feels as intrusive to us readers as if we were in an actual thick field of corn. It's impressive and scary!
