What are your first impressions after reading these verses?
Any questions or comments? Anything puzzling or surprising? (We should
expect as much with a parable.)
What would you like more information about?
Did you see anything in a different English translation that makes you
wonder?

The first impression I had is that this parable is not as famaliar to
me as others and then I looked up and saw that it does not have a
parallel version. Matthew 13:24-30 has similar features, but not
identical. Addtionally the wording is "choppy", if that makes sense,
as if something is missing from this parable.

I think it would be interesting to line up the text to see what
patterns come out. I also am curious about the "someone" scattering
the seed and the "he" [who] does not know, and the "he" [who]goes in
with his sickle. Are they the same person?

The differing versions have "as if a man" or "like a man". Is this
significant?
That's all for now...back to collation project....

Good observations, Nicole'
I am particularly pleased that you made a connection with the Mat
13.24-30 text. I want to talk more about that...

We will want to look more closely at that last verse and what it says
exactly about the sickle.
Thanks!

Ha! I had to give a presentation to the faculty yesterday on tech for teaching. I was giving an example from that page, so I just typed in something goofy, and I see that it got shot out as an email update!

I’m teaching a parables class online right now, and I have really had to pick up my game. I’ve been using a bunch of new tech myself, and it gets a little overwhelming.... Actually, it’s mainly been a lot of under-sleeping.

BTW, congratulations and blessings on the assignment out west. I understand that was really what you hoped for, so I’m glad this looks to be working out for you.

Thanks so much Mark!  The way my brain is I thought:  Good Grief!  Now what I have forgotten?  J

You know this assignment is a blessing and at the same time something that is bringing us all sadness.  It is so hard to leave a place where you love the people.  Everyone in my family is excited and sad at the same time! We are just good Lutherans to hold that creative tension!  I will be interviewing the week after Easter and I believe that this congregation may need my gifts as social worker and pastor with love for families and youth.  They had a trauma that I will tell you about later and I think my gifts in those areas may assist with healing. I am so curious to see what God is up to!

BTW I will miss your teaching and hope to find reasons to come back for CEUS!  I am currently in the midst of THREE, count them THREE prezis!  Two for classes and one for the Synod assembly. Yes…all inspired by that amazing professor Mark Vitalis Hoffman! Thank you for your encouragement and motivation.  BTW do you ever travel to teach others… let’s say in New Mexico??? J

God’s peace, Nicole’
