Hi,

Bibo ontology is well-suited for modelling personal letters (= a part of a collection) but, when marking up contents of these letters, how do you link a bibo:Letter to named entities mentioned in this letter?

One approach would be to use bibo:references but is this the best way to do it?

<Letter_L1> a bibo:Letter ;
    dc:creator <Person_P1> ;
    bibo:recipient <Person_P2> ;

    dc:date "1920-01-01" ;
    bibo:place <Place_Riga> ;

    bibo:references <Entity_E1> .

(Another option would be to just leave those entities "hanging" by not linking them to anything but that's not a good practice)

What would you suggest?

Thanks,
Uldis

Hi Uldis!
In fact it is "dcterms:references" and not "bibo:references" and yes
that would be the way to do that at the moment. dcterms:references is
really broad in its range (at least, assumed to be since DC didn't yet
defined a range for it, but was supposed in 2007...).

What you could do is to specialize it if required for your application.

Hope it helps :)

Thanks,

Fred

I'm in a hurry, so won't add much, except to say this case isn't specific to letters; it applies to any content of a bibo:Document, including direct quotes.
