In Belo Horizonte, the capital of Minas Gerais state, mayor Marcio
Lacerda said the city is in a state of emergency, according to
local news reports.
Aerial images from Brazilian television showed the Riberao da Onca
overflowing, forming a large waterfall.
Thirteen other cities in the state of Minas Gerais were also
affected, including Ouro Preto and Mariana.
According to forecasters, more rain is expected in the region
throughout the weekend.
