TORONTO, July 4 (Xinhua) -- The annual pride parade in downtown Toronto
on Sunday attracted about a one million pagan audience. It's the
largest gay activity in North America.
The parade in Toronto lasted more than two hours. Maybe out of the
expectation of first-time audience with different cultural backgrounds,
police and governmental officials were also seen in the parade together
with the gay groups.
Among the governmental officials was David Miller, Mayor of Toronto.
David Miller is a supporter of gay marriages though he himself is not a
gay.
To ensure the parade going smoothly, road blocks were set up by police.
Non-parade vehicles were forbidden to enter the parade area.
The pride parade in Toronto came into being in 1981, now it has become
one of the biggest gay parades in the world.
Canada became the third country legalizing same-sex marriage in 2006.
With a population of 50,000 gays, Toronto will host WorldPride in
2014.
