Strong Earthquake hits California border region

A magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck the California border region Tuesday morning, the latest in a string of quakes in the area.

The quake hit at 3:52 a.m. about 50 miles south of Mexicali. It's the same area where a massive magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck on Easter Sunday, causing more than $90 million in damage in California and killing two people in Mexico.

There were no reports of injuries or damage from Tuesday's quake. Several smaller quakes occurred after the 5.0 temblor. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the main quake was felt from Yuma, Ariz., to San Diego and into L.A. County.

There have been thousands of aftershocks and trigger quakes since the Easter temblor, and Tuesday morning's quake is likely one of those, officials said.

The Easter quake and its aftershocks have made 2010 one of the most seismically active times in the region in the last few years.
