Israeli police, Palestinians clash in Jerusalem
AFP
Israeli police used tear gas and rubber bullets against
stone-throwing Palestinians in the Issawiya district of annexed
east Jerusalem on Sunday, police and an AFP journalist said.
"Five Palestinians were arrested after attacking a police and
border guard patrol with stones," police spokeswoman Luba Samri
said.
An AFP photographer said police responded with tear gas and
rubber-coated bullets to disperse several dozen Palestinian
demonstrators. The extent of any injuries was not immediately
known.
The Palestinian village of Issawiya on the northern outskirts of
Jerusalem is often the scene of clashes between Palestinians and
security forces.
Israel conquered east Jerusalem in the 1967 Six-Day War and later
annexed it in a move never recognised by the international
community, which considers it to be occupied territory.
