BEIJING -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.8 struck
Thursday morning in the region where China, Russia and North Korea
meet, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
The temblor hit about 9:15 a.m., and office towers in Beijing swayed
slightly for about a minute.
The USGS said the quake was centered on the Russian coast along the sea
of Japan, 61 miles (98 kilometers) west-southwest of Vladivostok,
Russia and about 70 miles (110 kilometers) east from Yanji city in
northeast China's Jilin province.
A man at the Jilin province earthquake bureau said the agency was
trying to get more information and did not have any immediate details.
