Deadly 110-degree heat forecast in US Southwest

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for parts of Arizona, California, and Nevada for Thursday and Friday as temperatures are expected to reach up to 119 degrees in some areas.
The heat warnings will be in effect from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. both Thursday and Friday and include southern Arizona, southern Nevada, and southeastern California. Both Phoenix and Las Vegas are including in the warned areas.
The National Weather Service is forecasting record or near-record temperatures.
Phoenix is expected to reach 109 degrees on Thursday and a record-breaking 112 degrees on Friday. The record for Friday is 110 degrees.
Parker should hit a whopping 114 degrees on Friday.
Las Vegas is forecast to hit 102 degrees Friday.
In Death Valley, often the hottest spot in the nation, a high of 119 degrees is forecast on Friday.
Adding to the misery, smoke from the massive New Mexico wildfire is forecast to spread across parts of Arizona, according to the weather service in Tucson.
The hot temperatures will make heat stroke more likely for those doing anything strenuous outdoors and can be dangerous for the elderly who don't have air conditioning.
People are urged to limit outdoor activity and dress for the heat.
"With temperatures this hot, it is imperative that people working or playing outdoors take the proper precautions to prevent heat exhaustion and heat stroke," according to the website of the National Weather Service office in Phoenix.
