Strong Earthquake strikes off northern Japan

A STRONG 5.8 magnitude quake struck off northern Japan today,
seismologists said, but no tsunami warning was issued.
The quake hit at 10:02 am in the Sea of Japan (East Sea), just east of
Hokkaido island, according to the US Geological Survey.
Its depth was estimated at 35 kilometres, the agency said.
