COTABATO CITY, Philippines—A moderate magnitude 5.1 earthquake hit
Mindanao Sunday morning, the United States Geological Survey
(USGS) said.
The quake at a depth of 77.9 kilometers was recorded at 5:16 a.m.
with its epicenter at 230 km southeast of Davao City, USGS said on
its website.
The tremor was felt in the city of General Santos, Hinatuan in
Surigao Del Sur, and in Manila. Officials were still determining
whether there are casualties or damages.
The Philippines sits in the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, an
area where continental plates collide to produce frequent
earthquakes and volcanic activities.
