Mom and baby are among five killed in 'biblical' storm Florence
as looters begin to raid abandoned homes and stores
- Mother, baby and father were trapped in their
house in Wilmington after a tree fell onto it at around 9.30am
- Firefighters tried to lift the heavy tree and
managed to free father but the mother and baby died in the
crush
- Elsewhere in North Carolina, three others
died of a heart attack, electrocution, and wind trauma
respectively
- Four suspected looters were arrested and
charged with a series of offences in Wilmington on Friday
- Comes as North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper
warned of more suffering during the 'thousand-year rains'
- Florence made landfall near Wrightsville
Beach, North Carolina, at 7.15am - winds are now down to 70mph
- Morehead City has seen 19.4 inches of
rain since Thursday afternoon, and New Bern was hit by heavy
floods
- Officials warned the storm will 'get
worse' and 18 trillion gallons of rain is forecast over the
next seven days
- Storm is now tracking south-west at
6mph, lifting huge amounts of ocean moisture and dumping it on
land

A mother and her eight-month-old
baby are among five people to have died as Tropical Storm
Florence continues to batter North Carolina, with 18 trillion
gallons of rain expected to fall in what the state's governor
called a 'thousand-year' event.
