Undersea earthquake strikes to the west of the islands of
Vanuatu

AN undersea earthquake of magnitude 6.6 has occurred near Vanuatu
in the South Pacific but experts say there is no immediate risk of
a tsunami.
The earthquake struck at 4.54pm (AEST) at latitude 19.490S,
longitude 168.410E, The Courier-Mail reports.
The Joint Australian Tsunami Warning Centre said in a statement
that there was no tsunami threat to the Australian mainland,
islands or territories.
A statement on the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre’s website said
that no destructive widespread tsunami threat existed based on
historical earthquake and tsunami data.
