HONOLULU -- Two earthquakes struck Hawaii on Tuesday night, according
to the U.S. Geological Society.
The first was a 4.7-magnitude earthquake that struck south of Kahoolawe
at 6:34 p.m., the USGS said.
The epicenter was 30 miles south-southwest of Wailuku and 30 miles
southeast of Lanai City. The quake was only about 2.5 miles below the
surface, USGS officials said.
Hundreds of Maui residents reported feeling the temblor. Others as far
away as Oahu reported shaking.
A second, smaller quake hit about 20 minutes later just northwest of
the Big Island.
That quake measured a magnitude 3.3. The epicenter was 19 miles
northwest of Puako. The quake was generated about 18 miles below the
surface, according to the USGS.
There have been no reports of damage or injuries.
