European stock exchanges fall sharply*

EUROPEAN stock markets suffered sharp falls overnight, with the London
FTSE 100 index giving up 2.09 per cent to close at 4383.42 points.

In Paris the CAC 40 shed 2.02 per cent to end the session at 3309.65
while in Frankfurt the Dax lost 1.74 per cent to finish at 5054.53.
