70 properties EXPLODE in flames across three Boston suburbs in
unexplained gas main meltdown - with thousands still evacuated
from their homes
- Leonel Rondon, 18, has been identified as the
18-year-old man killed in Lawrence on Thursday
- Up to 70 fires were being reported in
Lawrence, Andover and North Andover
- Officials said problems with the natural gas
system caused multiple explosions
- Methuen Police Chief said there are so many
fires 'you can't even see the sky'
- Police are urging residents to leave their
homes if they smell gas and said residents with Columbia Gas
service should evacuate immediately
- At least one home has been demolished,
according to local media outlets
- State police said that the power company
would be shutting off power to all of Lawrence, North Andover
and Andover 'to assist in the gas situation'
- All the fires in Andover have been
extinguished, where a total of 35 fires were reported

A series of gas explosions an
official described as 'Armageddon' killed a teenager, injured
at least 10 other people and ignited fires in at least 39
homes in three communities north of Boston on Thursday,
forcing entire neighborhoods to evacuate as crews scrambled to
fight the flames and shut off the gas.
