RESIDENTS in and around Sydney are getting a drenching on Saturday as
the warm and sunny weather gives way to fierce thunderstorms.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for
the Central Tablelands, Hunter and Illawarra areas as storms hit
Sydney's west shortly after 3pm (AEDT) this afternoon.
"We are expecting short bursts of heavy rain and a bit of a drenching
overnight,'' Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Rob Webb said.
"With the rainfall there will be a risk of localised flash flooding and
there is a potential for strong winds.''
Earlier today, temperatures soared to 25 degrees in the city and 27
degrees in west Sydney.
