A MISSOURI woman and her newborn son were in hospital after she
allegedly tried to flush it down a toilet at a McDonald's restaurant,
Kansas City police said today.
No charges had yet been laid against the 20-year-old woman, who worked
at the McDonald's, police Captain Rich Lockhart said,
The baby was fine after its ordeal, he was quoted as saying by the
Associated Press.
Police had interviewed the woman's co-workers and would speak to her later.
"She's being treated, and we haven't been able to talk to her to get her
side of all of this," Capt Lockhart said.
The alleged incident occurred on Monday.
The woman's colleagues called paramedics after checking on her when she
didn't come back from the toilet.
She allegedly told the paramedics she did not know she was pregnant and
had tried to flush the baby down the toilet several times, Capt Lockhart
said.
The child was still in the toilet and not breathing when paramedics arrived.
They administered CPR before rushing mother and son to hospital.
The baby had been handed over to state welfare authorities.
