(CNN) -- Severe thunderstorms Sunday in the Carolinas spawned at least one likely tornado that touched down outside of Charlotte, North Carolina, according to the National Weather Service.

The tornado in Charlotte's western Mecklenburg County damaged a mobile home, toppled trees and brought down power lines, the weather service said.

The line of strong storms continued to move northeast, prompting tornado warnings and watches for such cities as Lexington and Greensboro.

The storm was also producing hail as large as baseball or tennis-ball size, according to CNN meteorologist Jacqui Jeras.
