Here is some information related to my discussion of freebase at today's conference call.
I created about 500 people in freebase with profession Mathematician and ids for Math Genealogy and MathSciNet. I used a BKN specific type for these attributes. I created a view which lists all the people with ids, the date created, created_by, profession,
http://www.freebase.com/view/base/bibkn/views/author_ids
Anyone can use any view as a
starting point to build another view. Freebase auto-generates views for
every type in a "base". Views are listed on the base homepage which is
customizable. The BKN base is,
http://bibkn.freebase.com.
At the bottom of the page there are links to download a TSV. To get JSON there is a link that produces a "MQL" query with a button that will take you to an editor where you can run the query to get JSON. The query could also be used in a script to get JSON data.
The best start point for freebase help is,
http://www.freebase.com/build. A page that describes views is at,
http://www.freebase.com/view/en/using_the_filter_view. A page describing bases is at,
http://www.freebase.com/view/en/build_a_base.
