Bibapp roadmap/future?

Hi,

We're about to commit resources to upgrading our Bibapp instance to the latest version. Before we do so, I'd like to ask about plans for future development of this application. Is there an updated roadmap for the project?

Hi Ian -

As is likely painfully obvious, while we (the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign) have been providing ongoing maintenance and bug fixes to the BibApp code base through Howard Ding's efforts, we have not done much in the way of planning for future development. This is partially because of resources - both my attention and Howard's has been on other projects - but also because UIUC's Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research is taking a broader look at faculty profile systems, and BibApp is unlikely to be part of that picture. That could change with the Illinois act mandating that institutions establish OA policies, but it's quite uncertain. These last two turn of events have occurred just recently, and we've been waiting a bit to see what develops to better understand where our own internal resources could go.

That said, it's important to have a larger conversation about the future of BibApp and where and how development efforts might progress. If others are interested in having this conversation let me know and I will try to set something up.
