Hi all,

I have a less technical question for those who are responsible for adding works to BibApp. My library is currently discussing and determining the procedures for how we will go about conducting searches for authors/works, verifying citation information, and determining what kinds of publications go into BibApp. We're wondering what databases other institutions are using to conduct their searches? How much do you trust or rely on your faculty to submit their own citations? How many years do you go back? We're a health sciences library with limited staff and without access to Web of Science, so we're concerned with keeping procedures manageable while still having accurate content.

We'd love to discuss this at an ACRL meetup, but we also wanted to get a sense for others' practices before an upcoming meeting with stakeholders.

Thanks for your time,

Hey Mackenzie,

We run weekly organization searches in Pubmed, Web of Science and Science Direct.  We're relatively small and our researchers produce about 25 papers a week, so verifying is really not that difficult for us.  We currently accept just about any type of publication into our Bibapp.  When we began, we focused on just the past 5 years of research output, but now we've started to backfill and we've got the past 25 years or so covered.  At this point, we do not have our researchers inputing citations, although we are beginning to reach out to center administrators to handle ingests for groups of faculty.

Hi MacKenzie and John,

We take a completely different approach because we are working with the entire university faculty population. Rather than discuss this now, I was wondering if you or John (or anyone else reading this posting) are attending ACRL in April? I'm getting together a BibApp user group and those of us who are going to Indianapolis will be meeting for either lunch or a drink while there to begin a conversation about this group.

Even if you aren't going to ACRL, but you are interested in being in the user group, just let me know and we'll include you in whatever we set up. You can see our instance of BibApp at rpm.gmu.edu.

Thanks!

Thanks for your response Claudia. Definitely interested in both the user group and the meet up at ACRL. I'm not attending ACRL, but if you had a specific day and time in mind, I could definitely make the day trip from Chicago. I know my director was also interested in a discussion. Thanks for arranging this, let me know if there's anything I can do.
