Iam considering purchasing a NI PCIe-8242 frame grabber to go along with my Basler ace acA1300-200uc camera. I can't find any documentation on how to actually use a frame grabber withing Labview, and I am very inexperienced with regards to using Labview. Does anyone have any advice or tips on how I can use the frame grabber?
For reference I need to start a video stream given a trigger from another Labview vi, and then take a few pictures and save them to a location on the computer within the first 30 seconds or so. I need to keep the video stream going until the end of the test. However I do not need to save any video - only the few pictures.
There is no reason to buy a frame grabber for that camera, unless you don't have a USB 3 port on your computer. It is a USB 3 camera and plugs straight in to your computer's USB 3 port. You only need a framegrabber if you are using a camera that uses a non-native interface, such as camera link or firewire.
If you need precise triggering, you will need to connect a digital signal to the camera using a trigger cable. If your triggering just needs to be within a fraction of a second, you can just start the acquisition in software when you get the trigger.
You can just run an acquire and display loop for the continuous video. You will need to check the image index for the early images and copy the ones you need to a new image buffer, which can be saved or analyzed.
It is a well known issue with USB 3.0 cameras that some of the computer USB 3.0 the chipset doesn't work well with fast camera. Then you start to get all kind of strange problems that look like software problems.+
I aprecciate the input. I think I need the Vision Acquisition software in order to do what I want to. This software comes included with the frame grabber for around $200, but the software on its own costs around $400. Because of this I think it makes more sense to just get the frame grabber.
Even if he did need the VDM, why would you recommend the runtime? He couldn't actually use this. It'd be wasted cash. The only value to this is if you already have a built application using the VDM development software. (which is more than the VAS alone which is more than the card he's looking at)
If you don't have VAS, definitely grab one of the cheap frame grabbers. If you already have VAS, I'd skip the advice here to blindly purchase the card and test your USB3 ports before buying excess hardware.
As far as how you'd work with the frame grabber in LV? Really, you won't. You'll work with the camera you plug into it in LV. You won't see the frame grabber mentioned anywhere. In MAX, it'll be the camera. In LV, you'll use the resource name from MAX. The frame grabber is just going to be extra USB3 ports.
I just found out the transparent bagel or whatever, in images is called the "Content Grabber". I'm in the 'love it' crowd, but when I updated to the 2022 version the actual bagle has disappeared. The only way I can tell I'm hovering over that spot now is the change from pointer to grabber hand, and it's too subtle when moving images for me to avoid now. I use both features (changing bounding box and moving the content) enough where it would be a major hassle to go hide/show the content grabber all the time.
When you install an InDesign upgrade, the default is to port over your preferences from the previous version. This process can cause issues. I encountered enough problems with it over the years so at this point, I just turn it off. (I also keep the old version in case the new one has issues.)
The option in the menu is activated has I got "Hide content grabber" in my meny, and when I choose the selection tool to select one of my graphic frame, I can see the cursor changing into an "hand tool" when I reach the center of my graphic block... so the "content grabber" is there... but not showing at all
Any help would be much appreciated.. thanks !
The "advanced" audio setting is referring to the Video converter, and the camera to which it is connected is giving the sound but the video converter does not record the sound. I only see the video. The audio indicator does not indicate volume, it is grey.
The camera and the video grabber connection have the same s video input/output (both male/female).
So I bought a cable that has also two same opposite connections (both male/female) to be able to connect the 2 same s video connections of the camera and the grabber.

S-video connections carry no audio signal. As @johnebaker wrote above, if you are using a "pure" S-video cable you also need a separate audio cable to connect the audio output of your camera to the audio input of your computer.
A big one is your mobile phone which constantly send out signals when not in use. Even when things are well shielded. That does sound very 'Digital' almost Morse code sound whereas main hum is a constant frequency. Signal can also be induced within the mains if running on the mains power supply and spikes or clicks can be caused by heavy duty mains being switched in from pumps from central heating of hot water systems or freezers / fridges / washing machines and should ideally be plugged into a different loop of the ring mains.Years ago it was not uncommon to see rf chokes fitted to the end of a mouse lead or video cable. Not so common now.
If you only get the noise when running off of the mains it could point to a problem with the mains charger or the socket it is connected to could be sharing the mains loop with another noisy bit of equipment from the list above.

PLEASE make this item more available in stores! I buy them in bulk for the closet store to me and now they are no longer going to carry them! PLEASE! They are the best thing since sliced bread. Make my laundry time so much easier and efficient. I LOVE them! I have been spreading the word and supplying my family with this product every chance I get! Please bring them back to the store near me! Thanks for making this product!
I used the Color Grabber Cloth this weekend and it seemed to work great. I used it with a red tablecloth (BHG) and some towels, though, and my white towels ended up pink. I suppose I should have known to wash the tablecloth by itself since the tablecloth colored other items the last time I washed it. I will rewash the towels with the cloth and see what happens.
LOVE these! They work great. I am glad they are available to buy online, since for some idiotic reason, our Walmart has stopped carrying them (typical of them!). Another plus: when they have done their color-catching job, they can be soft cleaning cloths for dusting or whatever. Beats everything else, hands-down. Totally awesome product, and no waste!
THIS PRODUCT IS A MIRACLE WORKER. I give it a 5 rating and want you to know that it gets whites whiter and no more pink underware. It is the best product and please never stop making it. My friends did not believe me so I put a red tee shirt (never washed) in with my whites and the only cloth that came out with any color on it was you color grabbers. Fabulous product. One happy, satisfied customer.
Found these several months ago at local Wal-Mart and was VERY impressed with the results when I used them. Unfortunately WM no longer carries them, nor do our local Targets, grocery stores, hardware stores, etc. Very glad to see I can order them here. Surely would love it if you could get them back in our local stores, though.
So what that is telling you is that your clothes are really not getting as clean as you think.
I am going to try a new product, that is supposed to get color out of white clothes that had something colored mixed in with them and see how it works. This is
for my Grandson who has a tendency to throw a lot of colors together, including
his whites.
I order a lot at one time (and we are only two people) so it takes a while to use
them up. I am just always afraid that you will discontinue them ever since you came
out with the throw aways. They are NOT ANYWHERE as GOOD.
I washed a cheap pair of black leggings with my other laundry before realizing how much dye would leak. The Carbona color & dirt grabber LITERALLY saved my wardrobe. Actually, also saved me hundreds of dollars in replacements. Thank you Carbona!!!
