Vitamin B12 deficiency has been discussed before but since there may be new people in the group I thought I’d send on Dr Rabin’s reminder that Vit B12 deficiency may be a problem with Bhutanese, especially those treated for type 2 diabetes with Metformin. The CDC article is attached FYI.

> Hello Mr. Shostak,

> I was forwarded your questions about Nepali speaking refugees (Bhutanese). I don't have specific written educational material, but wanted to make you aware of the high prevalence of B12 deficiency in this refugee population. It is critical that health providers working with them are aware of this. Especially since Metformin, one of the primary medications used to treat diabetes, further decreases B12 levels. I've attached a recent article on B12 deficiency in Bhutanese refugees.
