Namaste,

Does anyone have (or willing to write) an updated summary on the status of the Bhutanese resettlement in the US? I just realized that the Friends of Nepal website is out of date and it would be nice to update it with fresh data and annectdotes.

Thanks,

Hi All,
If you send me anecdotes you'd like included, I will combine into an updated summary.   I will also go through the emails from this group and combine the info we have shared.  After just glancing at archived mail quickly, I see info from Doug Hall, Gary Shostak, and Ralph Parker, and there is more.  I will include the links to info and other groups we've accumulated.   I'll send out a reminder to send me any other info with a draft in a week or so, then I'll send on to Aaron.  My email is:  irish89c...@aol.com
My personal anecdote is that my bahini Bhumicka, whose family I picked up at the Greensboro airport 3 years ago come June, has just married and moved to Utah from NC.  She is a remarkable woman, and wow, what a journey for a young person.
Have a great week.  We are enjoying a day off from school - not because of President's Day, but because a few flakes of snow fell last night and terrified the powers that be. I LOVE North Carolina.
:)

Chrissy, here is one update:

Of 32 Bhutanese refugee kids who graduated from high school in New Hampshire in June of 2011, all 32 are in a 2-year or 4-year college this year. This has been a spectacular achievement that far exceeds native-born American kids attending the same high schools. Credit goes to the kids, their parents, and the broader Bhutanese community here all of whom got behind education as the key to their future success here in the US.

I have another update that I will write about in a separate email in a few minutes.

Doug
