Good afternoon everyone: We want to share some exciting news with you all. The message below is from Amy Mellencamp in regards to a new Athletic Advisory Committee that is being presented. "Join us for the organizational meeting of a new Athletic Advisory Committee on Monday, September 30 at 7:00 p.m. in the BHS Library. We will build on the positive support and spirit of parents and students for middle and high school co-curricular programs in the face of potential budget cuts this past spring. Thanks to this support, we have full funding for athletics and activities this year. This new committee will provide advice and counsel to BHS on such topics as ongoing support for school athletics, program evaluation and viability, the recruitment and retention of energetic, diverse and qualified coaching staff, and facilities use and maintenance. Middle school parents are welcome to attend too!" Whether you have a child that currently attends school in the Burlington School system, will be attending in the future or had previously attended, and you would like to be part of the pride of Burlington, this may be the meeting for you. The school administration has been listening to our concerns and this is OUR opportunity as a community to share these concerns along with thoughts and ideas and bring to the forefront. This is our opportunity to voice our concerns and take Burlington Sports programs back and head in a fresh and new direction. Change needs to happen and this is our time to share. This is not the time to sit back, but take a stand and make it count. Burlington Schools continue to change and we are hoping that all of us as a community will come together to either speak or just be present as a show of support. Our sports programs are critical to our youth and the community as a whole. Our personal feeling is we need to invest more in our programs in the middle school grade level to prepare them for high school. We need to have a leadership and the support at the HS to work together with all the community feeder program's coaches and high school coaches to bring this all together. This is how we grow our programs within a school district and continue to build on our school spirit and pride! This is a great opportunity for us as community to stand strong together and voice the direction and steps we need to take our Burlington sports programs, not only to make sure that they are properly funded but to find out what we can do to make them even better and stronger. The new Athletic Advisory Committee is a HUGE step in order to make this happen. Dave Hartnett, a City Councilor and Community Athletic Sports Program Leader, is heading this campaign along with the support of ourselves and many others. We can not do this alone and that is why we are asking you for your support because we can not do this without you. Our Administrators want to hear from us and your presence alone will be proof of the much needed change in direction for your community schools and athletic prosperity in our programs. It is going to take a community to get this done and it is TIME! We look forward to seeing you all on Monday, September 30 at 7:00 p.m. in the BHS Library. Please spread the word and tell your neighbors and friends to come along also. If you could RSVP by Saturday, September 28th, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank You, Kevin & Jill Garrison
I have been contacted by Dave Hartnett to participate, and will be at the meeting on the 30th. I don’t know much more about it than what you see in the email below, but I will convey what I learn.
