Hey Gang,

I have been in communication with players/coaches/parents from this year’s Girls Club Team.  They are excited about the numbers and much like us are picking up some new players.  I told them that I would ask about an equipment share.  I have already loaned out everything that we had laying around, and hope that we can find some more for other girls in need.  If you have some decent, but likely smaller equipment out there that you think is suitable, please let me know.

I think it is time that we, as parents get together again at Smitty’s.  If for no other reason than to meet at Smitty’s.  Actually, I think that there is a lot that we can talk about with the season approaching.  Also, I haven’t heard a lot of feedback on the events scheduled for the game on the 21st of Dec.  I have been moving forward with what was outlined in the attached.  I hope that we can generate a lot of excitement.

Thanks,

I love the idea for the Saturday, December 21st game,  as well as future home game half time skates ! Sounds like a great way to get the younger kids connected to the program as well as building a local fan base. Go SeaHorses!

Jason i think I have some hockey stuff to donate....will check sizes to see if anything is appropriate. Could we also do a equipment collection for younger kids? I'd love to see this stuff get used by future seahorses.

Thanks Jason for coordinating an equipment search.  We'll check our stash.   Smittys sounds like a great plan.   Any ideas on when?

All,

There are efforts underway to really put a charge into this upcoming season.  We have permission from the rink in terms of scheduling, support from the athletic department, and approval from our new fearless leader – coach DiMasi.  Now we need to put it all together.  What am I talking about?

There has been some work put into making the opening of this season a special one.  We are hoping to get a big show of support and big crowd to hockey  games, and especially on “opening”  night to show our proud tradition and to show that there is a future.  We are currently working on an opening ceremony for the game on December 21st vs. St.Jay, and also get some Youth skaters out to the game.    BAHA is on board with it.  It would be a great way to drum up some fans for the game and continue the connection with the feeder programs that we have been discussing.  This has been a topic with the School Board Commission, whose members will all be invited for this game/event.

After reviewing schedules with the rink, it looks like we cannot do anything different at our first home game (12/18), but do have 20 minutes available for the second home game.  That game is on 12/21/13 @ 6:10 PM.  Dave Ackerman has already checked with the rink and we have the time reserved.  So, from a scheduling perspective, we are locked into that date, for better or for worse.  This extra 20 minutes is going to allow for a  pre-game ceremony of 10 minutes and an approximately  6 minute game between the u-10 girls and the squirt Bs (we are hoping) from BAHA between periods 1 and 2.  I am going to suggest splitting the teams and having 2 cross-ice games.

For the opening ceremonies, I was going to try to see if we could get at least one person from the ’73-’74, ’83 -’84, ’93 – ’94, and ’03 – ’04 teams there to celebrate the last 40 years of BHS Hockey.  We would have them drop the first puck and announce our entire squad ~10 minutes.

The concept here is to tie in the past, present, and future and reinvigorate the program.  What can you as an individual do?

1.       Spread the word, and pack the house.

2.       Help to find the reps from each team from 10, 20, 30, and 40 years ago.

3.       Help with planning and logistics of game day.  Looking to get someone to lead the pre-game ceremony, coordinate an emcee, and detail the agenda.  Also looking for coordination with the BAHA game with on-ice support as well as emceeing…

4.       Anything else that you can think of to make this a great event. News media, videotaping, you name it.

Coach Lou also had a great idea to have a “Skate with the Seahorses” night (or two) where the boys would come out after a game and skate with whomever wanted to be on the ice with them.  We are also going to try to get in some more BAHA skating events.  Both of these depend on rink schedules.  We should hear more on that from coach shortly.

Looking forward to the season!

Absolutely.  If you have small stuff for the little ones, BAHA will take that stuff too.  I donated all of the squirt sized Lenihan stuff to BAHA this year!  I can get that to the BAHA folks if you want to coordinate a time to give to me.

Thanks,
