Dear Parents:
Congratulations!
The Toshiba/National Science Teachers Association ExploraVision Competition is a national competition that provides students the opportunity to design an invention of their choice through the integration process of both science and language arts. Students in seventh grade worked through the Design Cycle as they came up with an invention, wrote a research paper, and designed what their invention would look like through web page graphics. This year there were 1,965 entries total in the seventh-ninth grade category and five teams from West Hills received Honorable Mentions, which places the team’s project among the top 10% of all ExploraVision entries submitted to the competition this year.

2013 International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme 5th Grade Exhibition
On May 1st every fifth grade student at West Hills will be involved in a collaborative research project. The students have been working very hard on their final culminating Primary Years Programme Project. They have been involved in an extended inquiry related to the theme: Sharing the Planet. The central idea for the unit is: We can improve our community by educating others about our impact on the environment.
Students chose an area of interest within the central idea and formed questions to guide their inquiry into their chosen topics. They determined an action that can make a difference in their community in regards to what they have learned.
Throughout this process students have been working individually and in small groups to plan their research, locate sources of information, create a display for a presentation based on this research, and look for an action to make a difference in regards to what they have learned through their inquiry.
Below you can find more detailed information about each of our 5th Grade Exhibition groups!
If you have any questions, please contact Kathy Janelle, kjan...@bloomfield.org or 248-341-6134.
