MARCH - MYP Coordinator’s Corner
March Focus: KNOWLEDGEABLE
This month at West Hills: TRUE COLORS in 6th Grade The month of March provides wonderful opportunities for the 6th graders at West Hills to learn a great deal about themselves and their classmates through a MYP Unit titled, WHO AM I? 6th Grade Science Teacher, Mrs. Hershey, is in her 8th year of teaching this powerful unit on True Colors. The 6th Graders begin the unit by taking a True Colors personality test to determine their unique personality traits. Students learn that their personality influences relationships with their family, friends and classmates. After learning about their personality type, students were able to explore their strengths and needs as well as those of the other students in their class. The final outcome of True Colors is that it opens up lines of communication and brings students together to have a better appreciation for one another. Students worked together in small groups to create a poster presentation about their personality type and present what they have in common. The final project is an individual project in the format of their choice that answers the unit question: Who am I? Thanks Mrs. Hershey for sharing with us this month!

* Looking ahead! 7th Grade Science Teacher, Mrs. Attard, does an extension of True Colors with a career focus in May.
