Parents and Guardians,
Welcome back from two weeks off. Of course, many of you were probably wondering what your kids were doing in your homes while you were at work or trying to get them to wake before noon. :)
Two things occurred directly before break that you're more than likely aware.
1. Your student has begun his or her research project. He or she is required to score 60%+ on this project or it will be obscenely difficult to pass for the quarter. This paper is in conjunction with the student's history teacher, will be graded by us both, and requires us both to approve it. Your student was required to receive your signature stating that you are aware of the due dates and point values for this assignment; this is due tomorrow.
I disseminated this information three weeks ago, and many students have done research over break. I hope this is true of your child.
2. We also assigned the quarter 2 independent reading project before break. Several students have already read the book and several others denied I ever told them about the books.
Our list includes the following six dramas, and of course they're only required to choose one. As with anything, not all may resonate with every student but there is at least one drama that will interest your child.
Here is that list.
Williams. A Streetcar Named Desire
Kaufman. The Laramie Project
Milton. Paradise Lost
Beckett. Waiting for Godot
Miller. Death of a Salesman
Shakespeare. Merchant of Venice
This IRP will be INDIVIDUAL, and I will assign the project within one week.
Also, our next in class read will be The Crucible, the allegorical play, based on Salem, MA during the late 1600s and correlates to mid-20th century American politics.
And as always, have a wonderful weekend and we'll talk soon,
Devon Adams
